Ha that's exactly the right question.

For content (front-end pages) you will need to be careful to set up your installation properly, because of potential collation issues. Make sure the new DB AND MySql are both set to utf, because default is English and that will cause problems. Even if DB is set right, MySql can mess it up. This is assuming you need the simplified characters, I don't know about the traditional.

For inside the manager, I am not sure, we use all English inside. I am sure there is a way, although it may not be perfect.

Susan, if someone had more limited English and wanted to get going with modx, is there an easy way to quickly get into the language you need as you poke around the manager and learn how the software works? I think this user is asking if there is just a packaged Chinese version for install.

I am looking around the modx website and not finding language versions. Are there some or can we choose languages at some point, or is there a quick extra we can install at first to get our language?

MODX uses lexicon files. The files used by MODX itself can be found in core/lexicon/. The files used by add-ons can be found in core/components/<component_name>/lexicon.

The i18n (internationalization) system uses a three-layered approach, a 'namespace', such as "core", the language code, such as "zh" and a topic, such as "welcome". The topic is actually the key part of the filename, such as "welcome.inc.php".

You can modify these lexicon files in the Lexicon menu entry under the Tools gear icon on the right of the main menu.

According to the announcement of the release of Revolution 2.3, a Chinese lexicon was added. This is the files found in core/lexicon/zh/. Apparently the translation was never completed, and has not made it into Revolution 2.4.0.

The installer also has a language selector at the very beginning, these files are in the setup/lang/ directory.

You can see the progress in translation at the official translation site, https://crowdin.com/project/modx-revolution. Perhaps you can help work on the translations, or know someone who can.
