What has to be done to get a bot-patrol random number into the user application form? It is blank at the moment.

Make sure you PHP has gd support compiled in and enabled; it also requires ttf support. Check the phpinfo() output in Reports -> System information, the "view" link.
GD2 fixed. Bot-Patrol all OK now. Many thanks.
