Upgrade revo 2.2.6-pl (traditional) to 2.4.0-pl

My current production environment is running revo 2.2.6-pl (traditional). I am in the process of setting up a development environment running revo 2.4.0-pl. Is there likely to be any compatibility issues between the two when I import the SQL and copy over the assets from 2.2.6-pl to 2.4.0-pl.

If there is documentation, please point me in the right direction.

Shouldn't be a problem. My advice would be to make a new installation of the same version, then move the old site to the new using Teleport or Vapor (Teleport's less able little brother), install the UpgradeMODX add-on to the new site and upgrade it.
