    Hello,

I´m trying to find a solution to develop modx websites without having to use several programs and the copy paste routine inside the modx framework. For that I found Aptana (http://www.aptana.com/) that I think it might help having a streamlined workflow to modx website development even with live preview (wich i havent figured out how yet).

I´m kind of a rookie and would like to konw if anyone has used aptana for this and have a good Modx workflow.
I´de like to use Aptana for developing the look and feel, create the templates, snippets and everything else. Anyone knows/have a good workflow?
Or maybe some sugestiosn of other software to do this.
Right now I´m using notepad++, dreamweaver and stylemaster but would like to avoid the copy/paste routine.

Dont konw if i made myself clear, but would appreciate any help.

    Regards,
    V.

Just download the Firefox addon called "Its all text".
It allows you to use your favorite editor, doesnt matter which one you use, notepad, aptana, crimson,...
It adds a small button to a corner of ANY textarea in the web and when you click, it loads the
content of the textarea in the editor you indicated...
when you finish editing, just save your work in your editor and it will be updated in the textarea.... gread addon!

          Hi Vadko

I’ve never been a fan of IDEs. The all-in-one approach is one I find stifling, as I hate to be forced into a single paradigm.

Textmate on the Mac and E text editor on PC - these are my choices for writing code for MODx (in fact code for anything). Templates, snippets, plugins can all be external files with just the include code in the Manager (in fact this is the most efficient approach for the site cache), or as suggested you can use a Firefox plugin to edit these direct in the Manager using one of the aforementioned editors.

            what - therebechips said.

I use TextMate on the mac, and save all my code as external text files - this way I have a backup if anything goes wrong with the DB (which has happened in the past) and also means you’re not restricted to just using the textarea in the manager.

Not sure. I don’t much like the idea that it meddles with the OS X core. That sort of thing has a tendency to make upgrades unpleasant. I’ve also read that it doesn’t use encrypted password validation, which kind of defeats the purpose of sftp in the first place. Apparently it’s based on MacFuse.
