So, in the error log as viewed throught the control panel in one of my MODx sites, I have the following error message repeated over and over again with only the date and time being different. Does anyone know what it means?

[2015-08-25 08:15:45] (ERROR @ /home/(clientname)/public_html/core/model/modx/modscript.class.php : 46) PHP warning: Creating default object from empty value

    Thank you in advance.

This isn't much help, but I can't find an error message matching that anywhere. I suspect that it's coming from an extra that you have and I don't. It's not in the modScript class because it's 'including' the file with the error message.

If you're able to do a multi-file search, you might look for the string "Creating default object from" in the core/components directory. If that doesn't work you could try just "object from", since 'default' might be coming from a variable.

Thanks, Bob for responding. Even though I posted this as a separate thread, I was actually hoping it was a clue to another problem I've been dealing with (which you posted on, as well), located here:

        https://forums.modx.com/thread/?thread=85749&page=3

I came in to work this morning with three sites exhibiting buggy behavior, all on the same server. One was a complete front end whiteout and the other two had missing navigation menus. I was trying to compare error log entries between the three but couldn't find a common thread between them. The above entry stood out to me and thought I would ask here. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be any easy way to track if it is a component (all very common tried and true ones on that site by the way). Especially since that error message doesn't provide all that much of a clue.

As a side note, we're looking into a possible solution regarding the other situation involving the server's configuration. Will post findings in the other thread if it proves successful.

Again, thank you for responding so quickly.

Try setting the debug System Setting to -1 or 22519. The first should show all errors (though I'm not sure it does), the second will show all but E_NOTICE and E_DEPRECATED errors.

That should give you an error message instead of the White Screen of Death.

Okay, so I just set the debug setting to -1 (I assume I need to put literally "-1" in the value field, right?) on a number of MODx sites. I'll monitor it an see what happens.

As always, Bob, I'm grateful for your help.

Yes, a literal -1 is correct. I find the setting description very confusing.

Glad you said that, Bob. Not just me, then.
