Answered Articles not displaying the Template tab

i hope this isn't a repost.
MODx Revo 2.2.14-pl (traditional)

i set up articles last year and kinda forgot about it. i'm coming back to it to play with it but i noticed my articles page didn't have any way of adding a new article or a comment, so i decided to go back and setup a page for the default Uses Templates (the ones with sample. in front of them) of Articles.

they didn't look the same as i remembered, so i pulled up the wiki pages and found out i needed to check some stuff in the Template tab. but when i started looking for it, the tab was not there. so, i logged in with the admin used to set everything up, and i am still unable to see the tab.

i looked around and found other issues related to TVs, but nothing i found was fro the Template Tab.

there was an update for articles, so i figured wouldn't hurt since it isn't working now and all my changes are saved off from the sample temples so i did the update to 1.7.11.

did not fix it. so, i cleared the site cache like it was recommended on some of the other posts where people lost their TVs, but that didn't work either.


i included an image. can anyone help me?

Do you mean no Template Variables tab? If so, this happened to us as well, even though we had TVs assigned to the article post template (your screen shot is of the article container I presume since it uses the sample.Articles.container Template) but anyway, after 11 hours of combing through permissions, code, etc. we discovered that the TVs we were using were inside of a category. The moment we dragged the TVs outside of a category (i.e. to the "root" of the Template Variables section in the Elements tab) then the TV tab showed up in the Article container. Our senior programmer said something about the current version of Articles not being able to parse TVs in a category.

checking under my Categories i have an Articles folder, but nothing in it?
actually, clicking on the arrow by all the categories folders, displays nothing

Well I'm confused because there is no Template tab. There's a template field that we can see in your first screenshot. As for the Template Variables tab, it rarely is present for a resource using the articles container template, but can be present, or usually is, for a resource that uses the article post template (I forget what it's called off hand). The TV tab shows up when tvs are assigned to a template. If there are none, you won't see the TV tab. If there are, you should see it, but I don't believe the default TVs that come with articles are assigned to the container template, just the post template. You'd have to create a new post to see.

according to this article: https://rtfm.modx.com/extras/revo/articles/articles.creating-a-blog it shows there should be a template tab. mine isn't showing up, that is what i'm trying to figure out.

If your screenshot is the article container resource, you're missing more than just the Template tab. Your screenshot is just a standard non articles type of page. When you created this page you selected "Create Articles Here?"

I usually click the root icon in the Resource tree (i.e. the World icon) and select Create -> Create Articles Here. Clicking the + button doesn't appear to allow you to create an Articles container.

ya know, now that you say that....i may have just created a blank document yesterday... (DOH!)

but, i don't remember the Create Articles Here being an option, but today it is.
i feel like a dork asking the question now.

now that i right-clicked in the parent document i want to create it under, and selected Create Articles here, it works.

again, sorry for the brain fart moment.
