Sorry for cross-post, but still can’t wrap my head around this, and what I’ve tried hasn’t worked.
My site pages are all based on one template. I need a function (TV?) to create an editable/updatable box in the right col of the home page, and in some right cols of some other pages, but not all. These boxes would not always be present (they are for sponsorship banners, and sponsorship does not appear on all pages, nor is it always provided) - sort of a there/not there toggle situation.
Is this possible, and can anyone help? The more detail, the better...

This is what I do.
1. Create my base template as an html file (usually in templates/sitename/default.html)
2. Create a snippet to include a file
3. Create a new template and include the file using includeFile snippet
3. Create new template called Home
- include the base template
- add your TVs to this template
- make the home page use this template
I usually have one base template and create a bunch of additional templates off of it so different sections can have different TVs
