Thank you michelle84.
Your idea seems very good. I'll try it and let you know the result.

You can use MODX itself to export the files as PHP, HTML, ASP or whatever file suffix you want
Simply use the export function: Login, goto Tools and click Export static HTML
The assets, including CSS, Images etc. need to be saved seperately as the export doesn't include them
Or simply update to the latest version, that works in 5.4+

was that function in MODX 0.9.61 ?
I use
https://www.httrack.com/ to copy sites.
Evolution user, I like the back-end speed and simplicity
I'm pretty sure that pre-Evo did have the export feature.

I am sure it does have the export function - 0.9.6.3 does, as seen in the attached image
This is / was one of the best features of Evo - I used to develop a lot of small to medium sites using Evo and then export them to static sites once finished.
Perfect for getting breadcrumbs, navi, site-wide elements and templates exact without any HTML errors or coding mistakes - a kind of page creator that took a lot of the manual work away.
Great for changing code / templates etc. without having to re-code loads of HTML files by hand

The assets, including CSS, Images etc. need to be saved separately as the export doesn't include them
This is an important issue. The export won't include a lot of stuff your site needs and it might be a lot of trouble to get it working right again.
I think michelle84's suggestions might be a better option if the site really doesn't need to be worked on, since it will just transfer the whole site as it appears to a front-end user. If it does, you might consider migrating to MODX Revolution.
BTW, if users have to log in or register to use the site, or if there are a bunch of users in the database for any reason, things get a lot more complicated.

Sorry for coming back only now to the forum.
Michelle84 suggestion was really the saviour in my case. I had to remake almost all the site and had I not use SiteSucker I would have lost all my data due to the change of the php-version.
Thank you very much Michelle and thank you to all of you who proposed their help.
