I have been building sites for myself and as a freelancer in MODx. Now, at my dayjob as an SEO, I have started developing ~8 new domains on MODx in conjunction with our programmers.

There is general agreement about the suitability of MODx for our needs, but our system administrator brought up an issue - he says that a MODx installation seems to be using absolute paths in some places, and he is a bit worried about potential problems this could cause as we have development servers and production servers, and he doesn’t want to wrong paths to get written to the wrong servers, or something like that.

Now, on a *much* smaller scale, and with no knowledge myself of server configuration, I also use my localhost on my PC and shared hosting on the web for my sites - a similar scenario, following these instructions:
    http://modxcms.com/moving-sites-to-new-servers.html

In principle, it is the same idea, and just requires changing the resource paths and file manager path in the Manager to work.

Basically, I am not sure there *is* a problem, but I am hoping someone from the development team, or someone more expert in these matters, can help me out here, and confirm whether or not using the "moving sites to new servers" steps and changing the paths in the manager for resources and files is all that is required.

I develop all my sites locally, and move the site to the server where it will be "live" - and have no issues with changing the paths in the manager. hasn’t caused a problem so far and I’ve build in the region of 20 plus sites using modx.
