I’ve been trying to get FCKeditor to display docs/imgs, and changed settings - now the links all give 404 errors.

Help, please!!! I don’t know what to do about this, and I’ve got to do something quick -- yikes!

    Thank you for any ideas,
    Wendy :’(

Let me guess... you changed something in the site configuration..? Check the "Friendly URLS" tab and change "Use Friendly URLS" to it’s opposite value (yes or no). Does that help?

Thanks for a response; was just on the edge of hyperventilating ...

Yup, I was messing around with site config, you’re correct. I took the site offline right away.

I de-checked the Friendly URLs, and things are working alright in Preview mode.

Do I dare put it back online now??

P.S. What’s up with the Friendly URL setting, anyway? Is it just a case of changing it, so that I can change it back to Yes again?

Don’t know what other configuration settings you’ve changed but as far as the friendly urls setting is concerned yes I think you can put it back online...

By default a modx site uses urls in the form yourdomain.com/index.php?id=(number) where (number) is the index of the document (eg 1 for your home page). Friendly Urls are in the form yourdomain/home.html or /about.html etcetera. Friendly because it’s more human readable and more easily digested by search engines.

To get friendly urls to work you need to do more than set the configuration in MODx. You also have to rename the ht.access file to .htaccess in your Modx installation’s  root directory and in the /manager directory. (That is if your server supports .htaccess files) Browse around the forums for more info about .htaccess and friendly urls or read this wiki article

Thank you for taking the time to explain, TobyL.

It’s great to understand why this happened, and to know where I can learn more about this. And to think when I created the "Offline" page, I said to myself, "Well, I’ll certainly never use that"....

I really appreciate your help with this!
