    Hello folks,

Here's my dilemma. An agency built our new website (www.ACGMaterials.com) and once it was up and running let me know that they were not going to support it with future revisions, upgrades, additions, etc.

I know nothing about MODX development or programming. I can add pages and add content, but beyond that I'm lost.

So I appeal to the group. Is there an agency or developer out there who has a proven track-record in MODX who would want to take over the ongoing needs for our site?

    Thanks for reading this far.

PS - In case you don't already know, guys with MODX Support absolutely hands-down flippin' rock. Seriously - they are a great bunch of folks.

It depends. Are you willing and/or able to take a little time every now and then, like a half hour or so once a week, to learn a bit about at least the basic management tasks? There are a few add-ons that can make them easier.

If you just need someone to take it over, then you need to arrange a maintenance contract with someone.

And, of course, being as this is a business, you or your legal people may feel the need of a more formal arrangement than I am inclined to become involved with.

Hey Sottwell - thanks for the reply!

I'm definitely willing and able to spend some time getting up to speed on the basic management tasks. I've done work in Wordpress (www.jimmadsen.net) so there are some basic things that translate into the CMS, like adding pages, adding content, etc. However I can't and don't want to become a programmer or developer. I will get sucked into the site and all the other parts of my job will suffer as a result of it.

The area where I get lost is in trying to edit the layout and design. For example, on our site (www.ACGMaterials.com) I need to add a "Products" tab next to our "Solutions" tab that would have the same shelf menu display.

I can't find where this resides in order for me to access it. I already have the Products tab and the content built out - I can add it to the main menu, but can't figure out how to add the shelf menu to reveal below it.

So there are regular maintenance things that are within my area of knowledge, but some development things that are outside it (and probably will forever be).

In addition to a couple of programming things, there are some projects down the road that will need to be finished as we continue to acquire additional assets and they are added to the site.

So far I have had conversations with one agency that does MODX work (www.bytejam.com) but also want to see if there's anyone else who might be a good fit to act as a resource for projects where we need to make minor modifications.

          Hi Jimmadsen,

You could invest the time to learn more yourself using the great community here to 'get up to speed' as you say. I think it might be just a case of having someone with more experience to point you in the right direction. Feel free to PM if you'd like me to take a look. Or if you want someone closer to you, modx.com/professionals lists developers geographically.

This is exactly the kind of thing that will make a non-developer pull their hair out, because there are literally hundreds of ways your developer could have set this up for you and it may or may not be a super simple change. Often, design/structure changes, even minor ones, will require at least minor changes to your site's nuts and bolts (templates, chunks, HTML/CSS, etc.)

I can tell from the tone of your post that this is precisely the kind of stuff you don't want to get involved with, and frankly, it's a bit of a rabbit hole if you don't have any background in it. As much as I'd like to encourage you to dig in and learn, you're absolutely right to fear it taking over your time and killing your productivity.

I'd love to help you out myself but we're constantly overbooked as it is.

I understand the core MODX team offers support: http://modx.com/support-and-services/#work-with-us

There's also a directory of providers here: http://modx.com/professionals/

Don't be affraid to work with someone internationally. The MODX community in Europe is really strong.

Lancipoos and Claytonk - THANK YOU so much for the responses and commiserations.

Yeah - caught me a bit off guard when they bailed. And you're right, as much fun as it would be to jump into it, I'll never pull myself back out of it. This is a wonderfully helpful community and I can't tell how reassuring it is to have your support.

Excellent info on the ModX /Professionals directory. I'm going out there right now.

              THANKS!!!!
