Should we build it? An easy MODX-Installations Management Tool?

I'm pretty sure that Teleport does a lot more than I know about. At the very least, its code should prove very interesting.

We started a similar project at the MODX CCC in february this year. There is a github repo: https://github.com/Sterc/modx-control
Unfortunately it seems the guys from Sterc did not continue working on it...

Cool, thanks for this link. I guess the need is there. People try to make things easier.

One question: Where is that tool running? Could it be installed on my host or has it to run on your Switzerland based servers?

MOD COMMANDER requires quite a specific server configuration in order to run. We trigger shell scripts and we encountered some difficulties with timeouts and run-time. We had to tweak the configuration to get good and reliable results. There are multiple factors that make this tool an ideal SaaS application. Hence we plan to launch it as such. But never say never.

The question is what do people want? A tool to self host or a hosted tool?

@Chris: I prefer to self host that thing (but I have some knowledge with unix server environments). At the moment I am quite happy with the shell scripts of Jeroen Kenters.
