Answered Member system and edit profile

I would like to build a member system.
Basicly members can login, see some restricted pages, edit its own profile.
I'm not following the Revolution process that much and don't know what packages I can use best for it.

Member subscription isn't clear yet, probably just eForm FormIt and manual add the member by an Admin.

What I think is that I use these:
- Login

- Update Profile to let members edit their profile (and profile photo).
(how does this work? is it an editable form which can be saved?)
Or do I need to use some other frontpage editor?

I don't know if this would be the easiest way to do. I'm not a coder so hope I can use out of the box stuff.
I'm also not aware of any possible downfalls/restrictions.

Did anyone made this before who can tell me how this can be done the best way?

You're on the right path. The snippets included with the Login package (login, updateprofile, etc.) will give you the functionality you describe. Setting up the forms and resource groups can be tedious, but there really isn't any way around it. Be sure to read through the Login tutorials http://rtfm.modx.com/extras/revo/login/login.tutorials.

I'm confused. eForm is an Evolution snippet, but most of those docs are for Revolution. If you're using Revolution, take a look at the Subscribe extra.

@Bob, sorry to confuse you FormIt I mean!

Thanks Michelle! I now see how it can be done.

Definitely take a look at Subscribe, which wraps the whole registration system for you, allows group assignment, and personal preferences too. It's also a little more secure than the default registration system that comes with the Login package.

Optionally, it works hand-in-hand with Notify, which sends email updates to users based on their user groups and self-selected interests.

If you register at Bob's Guides, you'll see an example of the Subscribe registration and preference selection system. The example doesn't include selecting user groups (everyone goes in the Subscribers group), but it's easy to add.

Thinking about subscribing,

I think the best way for my project would be people can subscribe (and fill in their complete "profile"). After that its all saved but notyet activated. The Admin can activate the member/subscriber with just a click. I think this is the way you did it at Bobs Guides? I haven't had any complete/activation email after my subscribtion. #edit# I did just now
