Backend fatal error: PHP Fatal error: Undefined class constant 'LOG_LEVEL_ERROR'

I wonder... can you view your server's PHP error logs and the database error log? Maybe the database is falling down on some of those quickly-repeated requests.

Another thought that comes to mind is that some hosting providers have security settings in place that block too many connection attempts in a given short period of time. The Manager's AJAX calls sometimes hit against those limits.
