    Hello all you MODx lovers laugh

    My site has a news column which uses the [*content*] tag and I would like to make the column an RSS feed. I’ve been reading about RSS and the XML syntax, but I feel a bit uncertain how to proceed. I’m looking for a solution where people can update the column as usual in the manager and then the update gets in the feed automatic or something like that.

    Any ideas or experience of this is highly appreciated!

    Thanks!

        Thank you very much!

        I’m a total beginner with this, so please bear with me rolleyes I’m trying to use the "Basic RSS feed"

        I have my [*content*] tag on page 38 - and I want to feed that content. I make a new XML page and place the code [[Ditto? &startID=`38` &format=`rss` &summarize=`20` &total=`20`]] in that page. (Is this page supposed to have a special name?)

        Then I place this code in the header of the template for page 38, <link rel="alternate" type="application/rss+xml" title="Whatever you need" href="[~39~]" >

        Where the link [~39~] goes to the new XML page I just created.

        But I don’t understand how this is going to produce a feed of my [*content*] or how people can subscribe to the feed if I’ve done this right, like where are the XML tags and so on?

        Thanks

          Page 38 is just a normal page, don’t put
          <link rel="alternate" type="application/rss+xml" title="Whatever you need" href="[~39~]" >
          Page 39 is the RSS page and should have the Ditto call on it and then set :
          [tt]Page Settings => Content Type => text/xml[/tt]
          and
          [tt]General => Uses template => (blank)[/tt]
          You can then either have it show in the menu or create an RSS button and link to it.
          Normally I think you would then leave the user to subscribe using whatever method/application they prefer.

            Hmm... I think you are misunderstanding the concept of RSS feed using Ditto snippet.
            Ditto aggregates documents under specified document(folder) and produce RSS feed using them dynamically.
            You don’t have to make feed content in one document.

              Thanks for the help!

              I’m having some trouble understanding this. Sorry...

              I have a column at the left side of my start page and I only want that columns content to show in the users RSS reader. Maybe using a Ditto snippet isn’t the way I should do this? Or if it is, should I install the snippet?

              Do you have some baby steps approach to start doing this?

              Again, sorry for being totally lost laugh

                OK, now i understand that the XML page is the RSS page. But if I would like to get the links from the column in a feed, or if I only could get the <div> boxes from the column to show in a RSS reader as different items. Or everything in the column at this point.

                Can I do something like this with one of the two methods above? ("Basic or Custom RSS Feed")

                I found some programs to scrape the column for its HTML and output it as a feed, the program costs money though, but maybe I should try that approach instead.

                Best regards

                  You probably should create a TV for the column and then have Ditto use the content of that TV as it’s source for content going in to the RSS feed.
