    Hello,
I'm looking for MODX documentation on how to backup, then restore an entire MODX website.
I found http://rtfm.modx.com/extras/revo/databackup, but this seems to be for a database.
I think I need the whole website backed up, so a restore will bring back the exact website.

    Any help please?

I am looking at different ways of backing up and what's easiest and/or most efficient.
    1. FTP: FTPing the www.domain.com/www directory seems to work, but takes ages.
I haven't tested a restore or git management of the files.

    2. MODX: I thought MODX might offer a backup, which seems the most direct method to me?
Can't find any documentation of paths on the Dashboard to backup or restore.

    3. CLI: $ sudo wget -r www.domain.com, is blocked by the webhost.
Access sometimes, but unreliable. Also doesn't seem to pull the database, just html pages.

    4. Webhost: The webhost offers a GUI to select a few options to backup.
Backup works, but restore doesn't seem to work. Also the files aren't git repository friendly. [ed. note: eiger3970 last edited this post 11 years, 5 months ago.]

      Check out https://github.com/modxcms/teleport

Or, if the site isn't too large, you can use Vapor. You'll get PHP timeouts and memory overruns if you try to use Vapor from the browser on large sites. MODX does not officially support Vapor, preferring Teleport, but not everybody has access to SSH. Vapor does work to import to any MODX installation, not just on the MODX Cloud.

The way these work is to create a package out of an entire MODX site, files and database (with various configuration options), that you can install like any other add-on package into a MODX installation. It's intended to use these for loading new installations, as they will completely overwrite any existing content of the installation they are used on.
