Having a list of newspapers as pdf files to which links are created, I would like them to open in a new tab (or window) of the browser, but not tabs opening again and again if several links are clicked.
For this purpose, instead of using target="_blank", I give an arbitrary name to the target tab or windows ("pdf" in this example).
<ul>
<li><a href="december.pdf" class="pdf" target="pdf" title="" >Newpaper December</a></li>
<li><a href="november.pdf" class="pdf" target="pdf" title="" >Newspaper November</a></li>
...
</li>
</ul>
But I observe that browsers (e.g. Firefox, MSIE) ignore this attribute when linking PDF files and always open it in the current tab.
Internet Explorer also let the choice to save the file to disk, but when choosing to display the file in the browser, it is done in the current tab and not in a new tab.
Any idea why?
No alternative to Javascript's window.open() method?
