What are people using for email subscriptions of new blog posts?

I'm currently moving a client from Wordpress to MODX including all their previous posts and comments into Articles and that's all fine - but have noticed that they have a considerable following in the wordpress "follow" providing updates via email when the blog is updated.

What if anything can I implement for similar functionality?

I use Notify and Subscribe. The notifications are manual rather than automatic, but once you have it set up, they're very easy to send out. You can set up a Tpl chunk with placeholders so you can send out a notice with a few clicks (and optionally a Tweet).
