Any tips? Joomla to Modx

I'm experienced with Modx but not with Joomla. Can anyone give me tips on switching a site from Joomla to Modx? Anything that will save me time would be most welcome.

Thank you Susan. I did see that thread but wondered if there was anything newer.

I've since found a revo extra (ImportX) that might help if I can export from Joomla in the correct way:

That's what harde76 said in his response to the above thread.

Basically it's all in the database. Figure out what you've got for each Joomla "page", then figure out the corresponding fields for MODX resources. Looking at that table that BobRay posted, it looks like you might need to shift some of those entries to TVs, like the

field.

Anyway, once you get the fields correlated, you could write a script that would process each record in the Joomla table, then create a new resource as well as any TV content records as required.

Likewise for users. Correlate fields, using extended fields on the MODX side if necessary.

Another interesting possibility that just occurred to me would be to create a custom resource type and custom user type to match the Joomla fields that are not available in MODX.

Thanks for all the advice here. I got lucky in some ways. It turns out the site is a mixture of static html and Joomla. I downloaded the whole site as static html and with some careful find & replace routines I've stripped away most of what I don't need. They're only using the title, alias and content fields so that was very easy to sort out just by importing html into modx - nice.

The next part is going to be trickier - around 250 archived articles in ACYmailer. I think I'll grab the database and take a look at the structure. Looking at the html though I might just be better off copying / pasting the content straight in to modx. There is so much tidying up to do it might be my only option.
