I'm searching for a lightweight newsletter system for MODX 2.3 and after having spend time for test with Eletters I'm searching a way to use/extend Formit to send newsletter / emails as batch.

You might look at emailResource. It's old and operates in a strange way, but I think it's still in use.
There is also a commercial extra that does this, though I haven't used it:

You are going to want something like

I don't believe it will be possible for you to extend FormIt to handle this functionality, or at least it's not going to be very practical.

For mass mailings, if I absolutely cannot offload this to a third-party service, I use DADA mail. This is a perl script, with a config file from hell, but once figured out it works very well, and can be configured to minimize the load on your server. It can be configured to use a URL to the page to send, so it's easy enough to set up a MODX resource to use.

Someday, I'm going to clone Notify, modify it to send the whole resource rather than a link to it (with the inline CSS and other options of EmailResource), and replace EmailResource with it. It already uses Mandrill to do the sending and would put very little strain on the server, since the page content would only get sent once.
