As said in my title, I have an Intranet site running MODx 2.2.14 and as of right now most all of the content is in .pdf, .doc(x), .xls(x) .msg format.
Coming from a HTML/CSS hobbyist knowledge to a CMS in a local intranet environment things are way different and i'm at the point where it is way overwhelming.
My environment:
Windows Server 2012
IIS 8
MODx 2.2.14
MySQL Worckbench 6.1 CE
So, here is my current problem.
The users wanted a search engine that would search within the files on the server and return the results so they could open their document. So, the suits got with someone who installed Zoom Search Engine (Enterprise Edition) on to the server and asked me as "web admin" to set it up and get it to working. Which, it is not.
I am probably going to actually need to post this on their support site, but i figured i would post here first and see what responses i get to my predicament and if anyone else out there is having issues like me with Zoom (or for that matter, returning search results of file content).
My questions (a couple are not MODx specific):
- Is there a MODx type thing that i can install that will give me the ability to search file content?
- Would it be better to just convert them all to "HTML" where possible
- Is there a way to optimize the files to be better searched?
