[SOLVED] EVO 1.x : Request for updates on Mobile design tactics

Good news everyone,

The ingenious Mobile Solution, written by noahlearner and revised by Zuriel, using <mobile> and <standard> tags anywhere in your presentation code has been found here.
I have installed it on my 1.0.14 site and so far it works flawlessly.

Please note that this solution requires pages NOT TO BE CACHED!

Hello friends,

As Google Search's mobile-friendly major update is nearing (April 23rd 2015), I've been searching MODx documentation and forum for MODx-base solutions to managing mobile design.

I have found two EVO references:
1. A solution that uses <mobile> and <standard> tags to separate coding between the medias;
2. A solution that uses different page IDs for each media.

The first one - Mobile Detection 1.4.2 plugin is no longer available for EVO (but only for REV), and its product page forwards to the second solution: Mobile Template Switcher 1.0.0-beta

My site structure favors the first option.

Can you help me understand what code is available now for EVO to accomplish that in EVO?

If necessary, I will pay professional services to provide an up-to-date solution to the first tactic.

Mobile Template Switcher that is being advocated there won't do because it allows for one specific template across the site, while I'm using here a few highly complex templates.
Also, <mobile></mobile> tags allow for conditional display in chuncks and in the source document itself.
I am looking to use "Mobile Detection 1.4.2 plugin for EVO" that has disappeared from the library, or another similar solution, of course.

I see you are using tables for layout - I would strongly suggest modifying your template(s) so that you don't use the tables.

Once you have that changed, you can simply add media queries to display as required in mobile devices

I have never used it.
Is making the site Responsive an option?

With CSS just add in your CSS:



And start restyling it.
Depends on the complexity of the site how hard that is but with using <mobile> you need to restyle as well.

A professional team is working now on beautiful new desktop and mobile designs, which contain no tables at all.

Due to the complexity of having many conditional objects on a dynamically driven content page, we have ruled out media-query, jQuery and JS conditional layout HTML and CSS.
It's either a) two different resource pages; or b) the ability to dedicate large areas in the template, document and underlying chunks and snippets to the appropriate browser media size.

We obviously prefer the latter and are frustrated to learn that "Mobile Detection 1.4.2" has vanished from EVO plugin library.

We will serve different content to mobile media. It's not only about styling and responsiveness.
Like the MODx framework itself, <mobile> and <standard> tags allow for great freedom of coding and design, and that's exactly what we need

If I read this properly, the plugin that you are trying to find doesn't work unless all of the pages you wish to show in the front-end are set to be uncached.

That in my opinion is a major reason not to use it.

However, since my resources (pages) are serving different content at each rendering, they are not cached to begin with.
I will post a big banner at the post, letting other members know that cached page status is mandatory.
Wish someone would take the <mobile>/<standard> ingenuity to a modern jQuery implementation.
I'm willing to join a pool that will pay a developer for such undertaking.
