I’ve got an interesting problem with one of the sites I work on. It’s a reasonably big site (~700 pages), and I’m trying to make it faster, and noticed today that none of the pages are being cached. The pages are set to be cacheable, the /assets/cache/ folder is there and accessible (the siteCache.idx.php file is being written to, so permissions aren’t the problem here), but there are no pageCache files in the cache folder. Every single page on the site is being served up non-cached, and I can’t figure out why.

I actually have several other MODx sites as well, and they all seem to be fine, caching nicely, so I’m a little lost as to why this site in particular is having problems. It’s on the same server as the others (Linux, Apache 2.0.54, PHP 4.3.10-22), all running MODx 0.9.6.1. I don’t think it can be the templates either, because pages with a blank template aren’t being cached either.

Can anyone suggest some possible reasons why the pageCache files are not being created? If anyone can point me in the right direction I would be very grateful.

    Matthew

Either a plugin is installed which is preventing caching of any documents, or the PHP user does not have write permission on the assets/cache/ directory. This is different from siteCache.idx.php which already exists (i.e. no write permission on cache directory necessary.

Aha!! Thanks for that, OpenGeek, turned out the "Anti-Spam E-mail" plugin was stopping the pages from being cached. I’ve disabled it and the pageCache files are now being generated. Very odd, not sure why it was doing that. Anyway, that’s solved that problem, so many thanks. I’ll just have to find another way of hiding e-mail addresses...
