getresources pulls a php array. you could pass this data to a snippet and use php code then to sort the grouping.
I assume your collection of event pages has not hierarchy and can't be grouped in this way in your resource tree? If so, are you needing to generate the date headings dynamically by determining which dates are present in your events or are the dates predefined? That would make a very big difference.
