Hi, I just installed the latest version of MODx. Now, how do I change the menu? It seems like such a basic thing, but I can’t find instructions on how to do it.

Also, in MODx is it possible to make a page that is part static content, blog, and RSS feed reader?

      Hello,

The menu is an output of the Wayfinder snippet. You can see its call in the default template (Manage Resources -> Templates -> default). If you’re used to other CMSs, like Joomla, one difference is that the menu is dynamically created based on your site instead of your site being created based on the menu.

And yes, it is very possible to do this!
On the page you want all that you would simply have multiple snippet calls or chunks, something like:

Hello, this is some static data. Welcome to my website. Check out some screenshots:
      [[MaxiGallery? ...]]
Also, check out my latest updates:
      [[Ditto? ...]]

      Hope that helps some!

Thanks, this has helped me a lot. So, in order to modify, say, the MODx top menu, I would have to hand-edit some code in the default template?

Depends on how you want to modify it. The default template is set up such that the menu shows all the items in your site tree. Add a new page at the root level and you’ll get a new menu item.

If you want this behavior to change, you’ll need to modify the call to Wayfinder.
If you want to change the way it looks, you’ll need to edit the template that calls it or create a Chunk that defines how the Wayfinder snippet displays the output. I’m not too familiar with Wayfinder but there’s a supper forum here for Wayfinder questions under snippet support.

Everything is pretty modular in MODx and after you figure out where things are set it’s very easy to customize and get what you want out of it. Research the Wayfinder snippet and Chunks in general (blocks of HTML code that can be used directly in your pages or sent to Snippet calls for their use).
