    Hello everyone,

    My Sys Admin is trying to setup our staging server from Dev and we seem to have dropped our manager account. He didn't setup modx, just copied and pushed it up. The site is up but we can't login to manager.

    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!!

      Using PHPMyAdmin or your favourite db management tool, you can use this sql instruction provided by the official docs: Resetting a User Password Manually:
      UPDATE modx_users SET hash_class = 'hashing.modMD5', password = MD5('the-new-password') WHERE username = 'theusername';

      i also read somewhere that you can empty the admin password field on the users table and this should let you login without a password. You'd then need to reset it once in. I've never tried this though.

        If the whole database was copied, the odds are that the Admin user is there and something else is wrong.

        Did you run Setup at the new location? You need to do that to straighten out the paths.

          Thanks!!

          No he didn't run setup.. He hasn't setup modx before. Our developer set it up on dev, but he's no longer on the project...which brings me here smiley

            If the setup directory was transferred, go to yoursite.com/setup and follow the steps. Don't proceed unless the "Upgrade Install" box is checked.

              Hmm, looks like our developer had sanitized the setup , that url doesn't work...

                In that case, I'd suggest checking the paths and URLs in these files:

                core/config/config.inc.php
                manager/config.core.php
                connectors/config.core.php

                If you can access the DB, look at the modx_users table and see if the default admin user is there with the ID of 1 who is active. If not, you can add one and use Treigh's trick above.
