Hi all,
I am a freelance front end web designer. About every 3rd ModX install I have issues with.
For example, I just installed 2.3.3 on a LAMP stack shared server, gone through the install without any issues and logged into manager but cannot access any pages within the manager - I just get a blank screen. I deleted and reinstalled 4 times with the same results, but on previous installations with other domain names on the same shared server this works fine.
On another install, TinyMCE cannot insert images (I can upload and browse for them fine, just not insert them into the text body).
On another install, Wayfinder wont display some resources despite them being published and having 'show in menu' checked and being on the same level as resources that do show up.
On yet another I cannot install any packages. The console just hangs when I click install.
On yet another I cannot clear the cache via the manager and must do it manually via FTP.
All these sites are on the same server, with the same software as the other 2/3rd of sites that work fine.
What am I doing wrong?
When I install I:
- Upload the zipped instance and extract the files via Cpanels File Manager
- setup a new database via Cpanel
- run /setup
- delete the setup directory and login to /manager
- Install my packages: Ace, TinyMCE, GetResources, Wayfinder, VersionX
I dont know what else I could do to change this process.
Any ideas?

What errors do you get in the PHP error log? In the Apache access logs? What is your hosting provider? Are you sure they are all on the same physical server?
Are your files / folders getting the correct permissions and owners?
Some hosts are not particularly MODX-friendly, GoDaddy, for example.
Are you transferring the MODX files individually with FTP? That often results in missing or corrupted files.

You might also find this useful in diagnosing problems with the paths and permissions:

You'd have to check every error log to find out.
I can probably say for many issues, file system permissions are usually key. If MODX can't write to some folders (both component folders, etc) then it will cause trouble.
Maybe the database user doesn't have a permission on the database?
Maybe mod_security is somehow blocking connections with package management system.
You mentioned using 2.3.3, this is the latest, and maybe you found a bug? Others should check if they have the issue too. I know that when I installed CodeMirror on 2.3.3, the interface freezes up a lot with script timeouts, I had to completely remove it, not just uninstall, to get back to normal.
The Wayfinder/resources thing almost sounds like the database is somehow corrupting or not saving.
My main issue with MODX tends to be slow interface, despite being on incredibly fast dedicated server with plenty of resources. Go figure.
