we’ve been using MODx for over a year now for all of our php based web solutions. we now have a very large complicated project coming up and MODx is looking like the most useful solution yet again. however, according to the 0.9.7 roadmap, if the new version of MODx is going to be so different (and much better and more logical by the looks of it) then we don’t really want to start development until 0.9.7 is released.

which brings me nicely to question 1 ... do you guys have any idea of a release timeframe? are we talking days, weeks or months?

and question 2 ... what will be the upgrade possibilities from 0.9.x to the new version given that the core is changing?

    many thanks

I can’t give any official answers, but as for #2, I don’t there will any serious issues with upgrading. I could be way wrong but this is what I understand.

As for the time frame, all I can say is that they are working extremely hard to get it out as soon as possible. grin

For several reasons, the timeframe is hard to establish... 0.9.7 has been improved a lot from what originally in the feature list (ext 2.0 js, but also several features have been added) and also the "food on the table" factor has delayed the dev team from progressing as fast as it might have...

As far as the migration to 0.9.7 goes, don’t worry there will be a migration script and it’s already been put to test... the main item which will remain is converting addons to the new branch. Luckily the 0.9.7 API is well documented and the process should be as quick and seamless as possible smiley

This being said, my advice would be the following : if the project is not urgent, you might wait till 0.9.7. But in most case, use 0.9.6.1 (and soon 0.9.6.2). If you need right now to push customization further, use 0.9.6.x along with xPDO. Any custom development you’ll work on based on xPDO should be fast to switch to 0.9.7 (which is based on xPDO).

I’ll let the dev/coding team refine this but this is what I understand of it...

hi david, yes that’s the url i’m using but i still get an authentication popup. admittedly i haven’t used an svn client before so most likely i’m being a muppet!

i downloaded tortoise, as suggested, and the only way i can see to download a branch is to right click on a folder, import and enter the url. this then gives the login prompt ... any ideas?

              thanks embarrassed

UPDATE - ok ignore me, i was being a muppet! i had to export, not import ... kind of backwards logic but i get it ... smiley
