Login loop - Session object destruction failed

Hi All ,

I recently installed the latest stable revolution Modx 2.3.3 on Linux server with SUSE os and Apache.
After successfully installing Modx I want to enter the Manager dashboard but I get stuck in a loop during the login.
The user and password are correct - even tried resetting them but it keeps on cleaning the login fields and not entering the manager section the users site is available only the manager doesn't.
Also checked all paths in the config files as described in several forum posts and removed all cache from the core/cache/ folder.

No errors are displayed in the Apache log nor in the PHP log .
After checking the core/cache/logs/ folder I found the following error:
(ERROR @ /home/www/servername/modx/core/model/modx/moduser.class.php : 346) PHP warning: session_regenerate_id(): Session object destruction failed.

What could cause this ?

It sounds like you could have a session problem on your server. Can you tell us more about how everything is configured?

PHP Version 5.5.22
mysql 5.0.11
Apache/2.4.6

In the php.ini file session.save_path is set to /tmp .
Are there special settings to me made for sessions to work correctly with modx ?
