I am a newbie trying to setup Modx on my ISPs (cloud Webhosting platform - NetRegistry Australia).
I seem to be getting this error, and no one there can help with it. Wanted to ask, has anyone seen this, and have any idea of how I can fix it?
FATAL ERROR: MODX Setup cannot continue.
To use PHP 5.3.0+, you must set the date.timezone setting in your php.ini. Please do set it to a proper timezone before proceeding.

It means exactly what it says. You need to set a date.timezone in your php.ini. How and where you can set this depends on your hosting server configuration. It's a little surprising that your hosting tech support wasn't able to understand "you must set the date.timezone setting in your php.ini"

You should put one in your /manager/ folder as well, not having it can cause odd problems sometimes.
I had to enter it into the php settings within Plesk
