    Hi,

A client had their hosting briefly suspended, which has now been reinstated. The data seems to all be intact, but the site is behaving oddly, along with certain parts of the manager.
The site is running on Revo 2.3.2-pl

The homepage seems to display fine, with assets and styling appearing as expected, but all links to other pages result in:

    Not Found
The requested URL /projects/outlet was not found on this server.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

When logging into the manager, again, the dashboard loads as expected, but other areas either fail to load the content, or load partial elements. The navigation in the header is very hit n' miss - sometimes the drop-downs work, but most of the time they don't - there appears to be no pattern to this.

Has anyone any ideas how to fix this, and what exactly is causing this intermittent unreliability?

    Thanks,
    Chris

There are several possible causes, but these are the first things to try:

      Log out if you can.
In PhpMyAdmin, edit the modx_system_settings table and set the values of compress_js and compress_css to 0.
Delete all files in the core/cache directory.
Clear your browser cache and cookies (or use incognito or private mode).
      Log back in.

        Hi Bob,

        Genuine thanks for the reply.
I tried as you suggested, but I'm still getting the exact same results.

Does the next option involve a hammer?

          It might. wink

See if the .htaccess file in the MODX root directory is intact and correct.

            Ah...
OK - I'm not 100% sure which directory you mean (public_html or /core), but there's only a ht.access file in those two locations.

OK, check the friendly_urls system setting (in modx_system_settings again in PhpMyAdmin, if necessary). If it's a 1, set it to 0.

That's certainly solved the front-end (apart from some custom php that relies on fURLs, but hey-ho).

But the manager's still acting strange. Content appears to load fine, and all tabs in the left-hand pane look as though they're functioning. But the drop-down menus are still very rarely dropping down. Any thoughts on that?

Copy the ht.access file in the site root (where the main index.php file is) to .htaccess. What this will do is, when the server can't find a file or directory, such as mydomain.com/page.html (which doesn't exist, MODX has to generate it), instead of returning its own 404 Not Found error, it automatically loads mydomain.com/index.php?q=page.html. That starts MODX, which takes that page.html and looks for the resource with that alias.

In the Manager, when a drop-down fails, check your browser's console and see if it's reporting any Javascript errors.

You also could try a full update, even if you use the same version, just to make sure that there weren't any files corrupted during whatever the hosting provider did with the site.

Thanks to you both - all of the above seems to have worked... I think.
There's no errors when hovering the drop-downs, but they're still a little temperamental. Hoping that maybe an update will iron out this.

In my experience, the second-most common cause of weirdness in the Manager after an upgrade is a leftover cookie (the most common being the compress_js and compress_css settings).
