Answered Ideas on how to create a stockists search function in MODx Revo

Hi guys,

I am in need of a search by postcode (UK) and return a list of suitable stockists within a Revo site I am building. I would think using SimpleSearch might do this with the parameters defined to return results based on the postcode search term - but think it would need some additional logic to work out the post codes and rank and display relevant results...? Does anyone know if this logic exists anywhere to be used easily within MODx?

I'd ideally also like to be able to prefix the search box with a show me results within 10miles, 20miles, 30miles etc - so then only show results that were within a 10/20/30 mile radius from the searched postcode...

I'd also like the results in a list form, as well as laid on top of a Google Map....

Any ideas?

Cheers

dubbs.

well, you can search only by radius, if you have a midpoint for that radius.
A postcode typically doesn't have one point, which could be used as the midpoint.

you would need a database with postcodes, where each postcode has coordinates from where to search from.

As soon, as you have this database it will get an easy task.

Have you also looked at http://rtfm.modx.com/extras/revo/storelocator

Thanks is there a demo of this in action anywhere?

Not that I am aware of, I've used it once and it's not bad but the site was never set live and I no longer have it on my servers, there is a short video though https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=__5Oi4Tqz50
