I have used pThumb in older versions of MODX, but in 2.3 I get a path error. Once the trailing slash is removed in /core/components/phpthumbof/model/phpthumbof.class.php (line 242) "httpdocsassets" occurs. If I remove the ltrim function, it sinds the file to process but outputs with two forwardslashes "//".
I don't think I should amend the pThumb code, is there a setting I am missing to resolve this. Previously used phpThumbOf and worked ok, but this site attracts 1000s of hits a day and I understand pThumb is more efficient?
$file = MODX_BASE_PATH . rawurldecode(ltrim($src, '/'));
This is in the error log:

File not found: /var/www/vhosts/mysitename/httpdocsassets/files/department/homepage/images/holdingimage.jpg *** Skipping ***

Do you have the base path set in the head?
<base href="[[++site_url]]" />
Assuming your site is in the root, is there anything showing after the / such as a subfolder path or another slash?
