I'm trying to understand what the Notify add-on can and can't be used for, so excuse me if the answer is obvious.

I'm using NewsPublisher and would like the admin to be notified by email every time a member submits a new resource. Is this what Notify is for or is there a different way to do accomplish it?

Notify is for manually notifying groups of users. It can be used to notify them of new or updated resources, but it can also just send them an email. It's definitely not what you want, since it doesn't send anything automatically.

What you want is a plugin attached to OnDocFormSave that only executes for new resources. It's relatively simple and there may be one already (I may have written one, but I don't think so).

Is there a way to identify a resource created in NewsPublisher (e.g., do they have a particular parent or template)? If not you'll get emails for any resources that's created.

Actually, yes. Currently there's only one but eventually there will be three member-only parents, each with their own NP form, and each will will use a the same (single) template.

This looks close to what you want: http://rtfm.modx.com/extras/revo/resourcewatcher

You should be able to set up a hook that returns false if it's not that template (or just change the ResourceWatcher plugin code to do that).

Good find Bob, that looks promising. It's easy to setup but I can't get it to work ... yet.

            Thanks
