Did you try putting .htaccess in the root folder for the site, or at least in a folder in the tree closer to the root than the revolution folder?

Try dennisleahy's suggestion of putting the .htaccess in the MODX site root. You have it above the MODX web root and it may not have any effect there.

unexpectedly. even after putting the .htaccess file in the root directory of the site.. it hasn't worked for me upto now..
any suggestions how i can get it to work ?

Double check the friendly_alias_urls System Setting, then try deleting all files in the core/cache directory and clear your browser cache and cookies.
