    Hi,

I´m currently building my first MODx site, and I love a lot of the functionality and flexibility. However the access control system is driving me nuts.

This is what I would like to achieve.

My client/friend is a singer/songwriter, he wants a site that is super easy for him to maintain and update. So I have made a blog input page for him to update his blog, and for the rest of the site he will use quickedit to enter information.

Now, the problem is that I need to restrict access to the blog input page, so that not everybody can post blog messages on his blog. And this is where the fun starts. The way I had envisioned this is that my friend could log in as a manager, use the input blog page to post a quick blog, and if necessary do some updates to his site using quickedit.

But the more I search the forum, the more it seems to me that this is not possible. I would have to create two different users, one web user to access the restricted blog input page, and another manager user to use quickedit. This means my friend will have to log in twice to do these simple things.

This can´t be correct can it? Surely the manager user has access to all the pages of his/her site? I´m really hoping that I have just misunderstood something here, cause my friend will not like having to juggle two separate accounts to do these simple things.

    Best Regards

    Kyle

I hate to say it but you are right. This has been changed in 0.9.7+ but in the 0.9.6 branch this is the way it works. Manager and web users are 100% isolated which is not ideal for all situations. A manager user can edit all assigned pages via the manager interface regardless of the private web status but can only access the public documents while in the front-end and needs to login to access private web documents.

I normally bypass the front end page for adding new content and keep it all in the manager (you can add shortcuts to adding new blog entries from the manager home page).

You can synchronize the two accounts (manager/web) by using the web2manager plug-in but there will still be 2 logins.

Others may have more views on this rolleyes

Thank you very much for your reply!

I guess I´ll have to make due with two separate accounts then. But I was wondering if there exists a snippet similar to WebLogin or WebLoginPE, that will also check to see if there exists a manager user with the same username and password, and if it does then log in both the web and manager user? Sort of a combination of the ManagerLogin and the WebLogin snippets.

This would at least prevent my friend from having to login twice. Does such a snippet exist?
