Answered Front-end post submission for logged-in users & Newspublisher main limitation

Hi,

I'm on MODX Revolution 2.3.2-pl. It's too complex of a task. Here is what I'm trying to implement:

My goal is to be able to create a simple front-end post editor for loggedin users. However, I don't want them to use native modx file manager for uploading images (main NewsPublisher limitation) into my TV (Featured image). I want to use a simple input="file" functionality to upload image and store it in a designated folder!

I read this post here http://www.leofec.com/modx-revolution/using-responsive-filemanager-in-modx.html it's soo code heavy and i simply dont have enough php skills to adapt it to my needs...

Anyone's thoughts of implementing similar solutions? Surprisinly, Wordpress has a plugin to deal with this (https://wordpress.org/plugins/user-submitted-posts/

You might be able to put the FileUpload snippet on the same page as NewsPublisher. I've never tried it. It might require using an iFrame.

Unfortunately, placing Fileupload on the same page does not work.

You could create a file TV attached to the resource they're editing, if that would meet your needs.

Or you might be able to add an iFrame that pulls in a separate page with the FileUpload snippet.

thanks, how do I attach TV to a resource? All i want for this christmas is to make input type "fileUpload" of my TV available on the same page with NewsPublisher:)

Just create a file-type TV and put the name of it in the &show property of NewsPublisher. Make sure the TV is attached to the Template used by the page the user is editing. When the user uploads (via the upload icon) and then selects a file, the file path will be stored in the TV for that resource.

If you later go to the Create/Edit resource page in the Manager for that resource, you should see the value of that TV for that resource on the Template Variables tab.

You should be able to restrict where the user can upload to by creating a Media Source for the user's user group.

thanks Bob. I appreciate your help! unfortunately the upload icon will load modx file manager which I dont want as it's too much hassle with restricting what members would see... I just want a simple file input window to select a file directly from their harddrive...

A Media Source wouldn't solve your directory access control requirements?
