Hello, I'm new to the modx cms so I apologize for my potential stupid questions ahead of time.
I'm trying to duplicate a modx site the issue I'm running into is that most of the things I found ask me to edit files in the core directory which I can't find.
All I can see is a file with no extension named core that is about 22mb. The site seems to function fine so I'm assuming there maybe some steps I'm missing. If anyone has any hint as to where I find this or how I convert that file back into an accessible directory. So far I've just taken the files and moved them along with the database. Unfortunately I can't anything to the live site in fear of breaking something so I must resort to making a duplicate like that.

    Thank you in advance.

Can you give an example of something asking you to edit files in the core directory? For one thing, Evolution (the 1.xx branch of MODX) does not have a core directory. Nor am I aware of any file named "core". That sounds like a server core dump.

I see, well I was having a hard time finding anything specifically on duplicating the modx evo site so I just looked at a forum post that was non-specific to modx version that said something about a file in the core directory where I could change the database config. Which is what I'm trying to find now for this modx version.

I think the file your looking for might be this one:

          manager/includes/config.inc.php

            Amazing thank you very much.
I was wondering if I could possibly request a link to a tutorial on duplicating a modx site as I haven't had any luck with finding anything since I don't really know much of the cms. Just in case I get stuck on something again.

Just so you know - the version 1.0.14 that you are using has known severe security vulnerabilities. You should really upgrade to 1.0.15, even if you don't want to migrate to version 2.3.2 (Revolution).
