What does this actualy involve ?
Do I use "www.domain.com" or "domain.com" or "http ://www.domain.com" and do I have to add "localhost" when I am working on my local machine ? or am I completely misunderstanding this and the hostname is my service provider: "host"name e.g godaddy.com.
Just need clarification on this.

A valid hostname without the protocol should be used. So if your site is available with http://www.domain.com and http://domain.com you should use www.domain.com,domain.com. If you redirect to one hostname in .htaccess you should only use that one. Don't use that setting In your local installation.
