Full assets_url? Ok to hard-code value in config.inc.php?

When generating URLs for the Asset Manager extra (http://modx.com/extras/package/assetmanager), there are times when we need to generate full urls (including http:// or https://), e.g. if a template is being consumed as an RSS feed. With links, this problem is easily solved by updating the link_tag_scheme system setting (or by passing &scheme=`full`) as a parameter on our links. But what of the assets_url?

Is it ok to code in a full URL in our config.inc.php? e.g. perhaps something like:



I know the config.inc.php gets auto-generated at times... but does that value every get overwritten? I feel like the link_tag_scheme could conceivably apply to the assets_url...

Thoughts?

Looks like the above edit kills the manager. Bummer. How else can one force a full URL for assets?

I think the only time config.inc.php is overwritten is during setup, but that it tries to keep the same values unless you've told it otherwise? I can't think of a reason you wouldn't be able to change the assets url to a full url, but haven't done that myself before.

All you have to do is create a System (or Context) Setting for assets_url.

You can also use existing settings to build the full value dynamically, e.g. {url_scheme}{http_host}{assets_url}

Good question -- not sure where it should go. The organization of the forums has changed.

FYI, I'm 99% sure I've hard-coded the full assets URL in config.inc.php on localhost without having it overwritten during upgrades. I don't think Setup will change it if it's valid.

That said, OpenGeek's solution is probably a better way to go. You could create more than one System (or Context) setting, one for http and one for https. That way, both of them would be available anywhere with a simple setting tag:
