(Newbie question!)
I can't figure out a way to use a chunk or a snippet in a TV. Am I doing something wrong, or is this expected behavior?
Background: I have a TV where people can put a list of specially styled quotes. My users aren't generally HTML literate and don't want to be, so I wanted to avoid having to teach them the HTML and just teach them to use a chunk that will handle all the messy bits for them, and also give me an easy way to change the style in one nice, neat chunk.
Thank you so much in advance!
If I'm understanding you, each chunk has one quote and the TV contains a list of chunk names. Is that right?
Exactly, @BobRay. The TV would have a list of chunk names, each of which will have a property value or two passed to it.
Where, exactly, are these properties?
The properties are defined on the chunk. For example, you could use it this way:
[[$impactQuote?
"e = `We love this team!`]]
Does this help?
I'm afraid not. You said the TV was a list of chunk names, but you're showing a chunk tag. The TV and any code that would use it knows nothing about what's in tags on the page. If the property values are defined in the default properties of the chunk, they would be used, but I doubt if that's what you want.
It's very easy to write a snippet that will take a list of chunk names in a TV and output the chunks to the page, but integrating properties is a different story, especially multiple properties.
I wonder if a MIGX TV would do what you want.
What outputs when you attempt to call the chunk in the TV? Is your TV rich text or just a text field? If the TV input is rich text, it may just output literally the chunk call.
I have been successful simply inserting a call to a chunk and have several instances in current sites where the chunk call is inserted into the TV, simply because it was faster for me to manully update chunk than it would be for building out a MIGx TV to handle the task. Slowly but surely though—as I become more comfortable with MIGx, I am going back and implementing MIGx.
