I doing some work on an old site that was built on Revolution 2.0.8. I would like to upgrade. The docs tell me it's a good idea to upgrade my packages first. I have five packages. They are all outdated. But whenever I try to upgrade them in the package manager I get a message like this:

Your package is already up-to-date at: [package name and version number]

I have thought about just uninstalling the packages and reinstalling them. Should I do that? I am a bit worried I will break something.

Package versions require a minimum version of MODX to work, so when you browse the extras, you won't see ones that won't run on your version of MODX. If they all show as up-to-date, go ahead and update MODX. Then the newer releases of the extras will show up as available.

Back up the site first, and I would recommend upgrading through each intermediate version (since your are making such a big jump), testing the site and backing up successive working versions as you go. The intermediate versions are on the Previous Releases tab here: http://modx.com/download/.

I've found that in some cases it's even necessary to upgrade only 4 or 5 minor versions at a time. Some of the database updates don't work if it's too much of a jump.

I will back everything up and then upgrade in baby steps, as suggested. Not looking forward to it as I'm sure I will break something. But I'll let you know how it went.
