Ok, so I am having an impossible time installing modx 2.3.1 on softlayer cpanel servers. These are the same servers that run versions prior to 2.3 GREAT! I get locked cache folders, the manager has the white screen of death. I just don't know what else to do.

    I've enabled suPHP
I've deleted the cache folder and recreated it using the owner of the cpanel account
I've even gone 777 across my cache folder and its a no go.

I've read a lot of the support articles and tried a few other odds and ends as well. Any advice?

Any help would be great - softlayer gave up too!

      Hello,

I have gone over this pretty thoroughly, I have done all of the suggest settings and I have made sure that you don't have mod_security installed. Nothing that I'm doing is getting this to function. At this time you are going to need to email the modx dev team to see if they can give you a suggestion on what is broken.

Thank you for choosing Softlayer, an IBM Company.

A white manager screen after install can sometimes mean you've got compress css/js enabled in MODX, and your server doesn't like it.

Can you post your phpinfo? I suspect the problem is related to your server configuration.

The strange part is this issue is specific to 2.3+ - all earlier versions work fine. go figure!

I needed to turn on suPHP and turn off SuExec - I'm an idiot.

Actually I've always thought it was pretty idiotic for whoever developed the suExec module for Apache to not include PHP in that, requiring another su- module to handle PHP.
