Hi all, after 18month of smooth service my MODx broke down; I was just editing some HTML on a page and could not save it; since then no page nor the manager is reachable, i.e. they return a blank page, response headers:

The sysAdmin already checked and restarted both Apache and MySql;
it seems some of the php files had been corrupted,
what can I do to try isolate the problem? or should I just overwrite all the MODx folder aside from assets and the config.ini in manager/includes

!?
Thanks, Ciao
Is the manager not accesible ider? (I you can get in the manager try clearing the cache)
what you could try is to run the installer again. (only installer)
if that does not get you in the manager then yes upgarde the installation by overwriting your manager folder etc. make sure you make a backup of the alters snippets and configs you may have done. and ofcourse make a mysql backup first. and a backup from your assets.

No manager access, ... is the site-cache saved in any of the mySQL tables? can I clean it by deleting records from phpMyAdmin ?!?
Ialso in MySQL I have
modx_event_log 124,903 Records 204.5 MiB
modx_manager_log 23,035 Records 1.6 MiB
these 2 tables can be emptied right ?!??

Yes you can empty those tables. An event log that large would seem to indicate something is not right though. What plugins are you running?
(I suspect you have template switcher installed—delete it!)

I remember trying TemplateSwitcher a long time ago, but I don’t see it in /assets/plugins/ .
Has I have no access to the whole manager, I don’t know if it’s present and active uner the plugin Tab.
I cleaned the 2 tables with no effects;
modx_event_log last records are errors:
Too many forward attempts. »
SQL: The request could not be completed due to too many unsuccessful forward attempts.
reloading the homepage does not currently generates new such records, while checking the http response headers I find a ’503 - Service unavailable’. Nothing in the httpd error logs...

Sounds like a key page is sending a redirect to a page that isn’t published or something. Make sure the site_start, error_page, unauthorized_page etc. are pointing at valid, publicly accessible pages.
where do I access the IDs of those docs and check/edit their published status with no manager available ?
Anyhow check this:
A different virtual host on the same machine, i.e. running under the same Apache, contained another MODx directory pointing to a different DB (an old dump of the official one); this was still running fine.
I edited the config.inc.php for this mirror to make it connect to the current/official DB, it stayed up and started displaying the updated contents, I logged into the manager and cleared the cache as suggested in the first reply ...BAM ->blank page again !!

Sorry, without more information on version and environment, not much we can ween from this. I assume you have made sure all the plugins you have installed are working; there was a widely discussed problem with these kinds of results with the SearchHighlight plugin that was in early releases of 0.9.6.1p2.
Not exactly sure how, but the site more or less resurrected, I believe fixing tables overheads solved the issue, but I was too tired and desperate to keep an exact log of my trials...
THANKS anyhow, I’ll make sure to upgrade the core and all snippets to the latest version!
