Hi guys, i’m totally new to Modx, CMSs and even real websites, i’ve had one on freewebs for a while but was recommended Modx by a friend who’s a web developer.

I’m going through the install process following the instructions from modx wiki, but get stuck when i get to the connection information window (so i didn’t get far through the installation process embarrassed ).

My host hasn’t provided me with something that specifically says what my datadase domain will be, i’ve tried several combinations of mysql14.streamline.net and the same using my domain name, but don’t seem to get one that will be accepted by the installer.

Can anyone help on this? I wasn’t sure about giving out too many domain/account details etc. before i’ve got the cms installed and the config.inc.php file has been changed back to r-r-r to lock it.

Really appreciate any help that can be given, as i said i’m a total newbie to this. Hopefully once the install is done i can be left to potter through learning css! shocked

If you mean the Database Server, that’s usually "localhost".

Ok, i’ve tried to run the install with localhost and the login info for my database, and just get "connection to host: failed!" appear below the text boxes, any idea what could be causing this and how to solve it? Beginning to wish i’d gone with a host that installs modx free!!! rolleyes

            connection to host: failed!
seems localhost isn’t the db server

Read this: http://www.streamlinesupport.net/index.php?page=show&id=214 and if this doesn’t help call provider’s support and ask.

Following on from rasc to quote

Please note that MySQL is not available with the Home User package.
Do you have the Home User package?

Have you created a MySQL user and password through your Streamline Control Panel?
I also usually create an empty database ready for MODx, but this isn’t strictly necessary.

Well it automatically creates one and assigns a password when you create the new database. I’ve just tried creating a brand new database, entered MySQL14.streamline.net spearately in the database host box and i’ve got the message below:

Connection to host: passed... Checking database: failed - could not select database modx!

If i enter localhost as the database host then i get this message:

                    Connection to host: failed!

Getting very confused as to what to enter now... huh
