    This may sound like a bone head question and is only peripherally related to MODx, but here goes.

    How do I create multiple instances of MODx on my localhost? I want to work on more than one project at a time and I want them to be completely independent so I can move them to different servers when completed.

    I have an existing installation of MODx on my locahhost (WAMP). I thought I could simply create a new folder under the WAMP directory and install MODX under that directory for my next project. I’m good until I get the point where I need to enter the DB connection information. I don’t know how to create a new SQL DB for this instance of MODx.

    Can someone help me with this?

    I’m new to working in a shared hosted server environment about 3 months--still learning--so beginner language would be helpful.

    Thanks you!

      Thank you for the quick response.

      That’s exactly the part at which I’m stuck. On phpmyadmin

      Create new database:
      No Privileges

      I can’t figure out how to get past this.

        I’m using WAMP Server 2.0. As a newbie, I installed this right out of the box, so I’ll have to poke around a bit to see if I can find what you’ve mentioned.

        Stay tuned.

          Well I didn’t find any .exe files anywhere in the phpmyadmin folder or the sqlitemanger folder in the WAMP directory.

          I did scan through the config.inc.php file and noticed a couple of statements. Not sure if they’re relevant.

          $cfg['Servers'][$i]['controluser']   = '';          // MySQL control user settings
                                                              // (this user must have read-only
          $cfg['Servers'][$i]['controlpass']   = '';          // access to the "mysql/user"
                                                              // and "mysql/db" tables).
                                                              // The controluser is also
                                                              // used for all relational
                                                              // features (pmadb)
          $cfg['Servers'][$i]['auth_type'] = 'cookie'; // Authentication method (config, http or cookie based)?
          $cfg['Servers'][$i]['user']          = 'root';      // MySQL user
          $cfg['Servers'][$i]['password'] = 'xxxxxxxx'; // MySQL password (only needed
                                                              // with 'config' auth_type)

          I tried to login using Root as the user name and the pw in the config file. But I get a message that says:

          Error
          #1045 - Access denied for user ’Root’@’localhost’ (using password: YES)

          If I leave the pw blank, I can login as user Root but still with no create privileges.

          So my question is how did the first DB get created if I can’t create one now?

          Do I need to reinstall WAMP Server?
