Dynamic Picker

I’m not sure if or how to do this so I’ll try to explain.

I need to create several conditional drop-down/pickers (I assume TVs) for Manager users. Also, I will eventually need to do the same for a front-end form.

So for example, when a user selects a specific template for a new resource there will be by default one visible TV/picker, let's call it ‘Category’. Let’s say Category has 2 options:

(picker name 'Category')
Javascript
CMS

If the user selects 'CMS' then a new 'CMS' picker will automagically appear with these options:

(picker name 'CMS')
MODX
Joomla
Drupal
Other (please specify)

If the user then selects 'MODX' a 'Version' picker appears:

(picker name 'Version')
2.3.2
2.3.1
2.3.0

Alternatively, if the user selects 'Other' then a text field needs to appear where the user can manually enter a value.

Once this process is completed and the page is saved the names and values from each picker (or text field) are passed to the front-end. For example:

Category: CMS
CMS: MODX
Version: 2.3.0

or alternatively

Category: CMS
CMS: (Other) [User manually enters value.]

I will need to do this for a variety of different pickers on the same page.

the dynamicDropDown - TV - Extra does something like that and might be a good startpoint to develop on.

In its current state, it allows to have parent/children - relations to each other, but doesn't hide others and doesn't allow to show different kinds of TVs, depending of a selection.
But it should be possible, to extend it, to do so.
