    Hey guys..

I’ve set up a site for a client of mine who is used to working with Frontpage.. She does a lot of pasting from other sites and such and in regards to that i contantly see a lot of unwanted text-formatting... When I lookup on of the pages where she could have pasted something and tried to edit it afterwards, I look at the HTML-code and the code is just full of
    <span style="font-size: x-small"><span style="font-size: x-small"></span></span> <span style="font-size: x-small"></span><strong></strong><span style="font-size: x-small"></span>Some text<span style="font-size: x-small"><span style="font-size: x-small"></span></span>

....why is this coming up all the time? I havn’t found a way to get rid of it yet other than going into the HTML-view and removing it by hand.. but I sure can’t tell her how to do that.. and it can’t be true that she has to delete all the text and start over typing it in...

    What to do?

    thank you...

IMHO that is the problem with RTE’s in general.
I found if you added, edited, formatted, re-formatted and then deleted it you’d end up with lots of orphaned css tags.
Maybe someone has a way of cleansing them?

Tell her to use the Paste as Text button. This gets around the problem of useless markup being inserted in the content. TinyMCE’s cleanup script tries to compensate for bad code...but unfortunately if the code is really bad then it’ll insert a ton of spans. Best to use the Paste as Text button when in doubt. smiley

Nice tip Bravado, I will suggest to clients they "paste as text" in the future.
