Default theme - 'Mark All Read' Not Working (or dots not displaying)

I'll have to get back to this thread but after sorting out other recent problems with Discuss (undesirable linking to google jquery with no fallback in theme) plus some other js and php character parsing isues, there are two annoying "theme" problems still existant, one being that after a few fresh install:

- The 'Not Read' dot next to unread posts in thread is not displaying.

If anyone has this issue or can point the way to the dot, please chime in.
