I would like to some advice from others supporting sites with news/blog postings that include images, and ideally, those that may additionally link to a collection of additional photos. I'm aware there are multiple ways I can do this, but I'm interested in opinions on what be the best practice, most efficient, best performant, etc. See the attached mock up drawing as a reference ... A couple inline images and then a collection of thumbnails for additional images.

I had setup a MODx site with a blog (Articles) doing just that and it was working.
I had created a template variable for the Resource ID of a Container of Static Resources, one for each of the images (set to file system and pointed at the image file) that I had uploaded via FTP.

For a new article I would create the post in Articles. I would upload photos to a directory via FTP. I would create a new Container for the article, and for each image create a static resource. -- I would have between 5-15 additional images from an event I was writing an article / recap about ... so it was a very repetitive task, and at times loading times added up to making it a long effort when navigating around the manager.

Furthermore, in that version of MODx (2.2.x I think) I was using the extra sekFancyBox and I could pass it the container ID it would create the nice little "More images" part, each launching in the elegant Lightbox. It was working very slick, however, with the latest MODx Revolution. I have not been able to find sekFancyBox in the Plugin Management search nor have I found anything posted about it having an update coming, or that being resolved. Which had me reconsidering how I was doing this.

Additionally, while that setup worked ... I feared it being to involved for me to teach a non-developer / user to follow. More so, I could have trained someone, however I have a feeling there is a similar approach and I questioned it after I upgraded and began to setup a new site ... did I want repeat that approach?

How are others structuring their file/image management for blog posts?

Was I on the right (generally) track with using the Static Resources...

Are there other Extras that would be best/better suited for what I was try to do?

P.S. I also tried to download sekFancyBox transporter and install it manually - but I do not see the option in Rev 2.3.1 to scan local directories (file system) in Package Manager - Anyone have advice on that?

      http://www.sepiariver.ca/blog/modx-web/tutorial-modx-and-filelister-for-automatic-photo-publishing/

Found this today and it's exactly what I was looking for!
A couple quick tweaks to the templates and I can output the image thumbnails directly from the contents of a directory I've uploaded to, I added the Lightbox scripts on my own and I'm back in business and I've avoided the overhead of creating unique static resources for every image I upload. The compromise I made by not having the static resource is that I don't have the easy of specifying a image name, caption (long title), and description (summary text) through those attributes on the resource. But that can be resolved in other ways.

I'll share a link to the final implementation once I have it implemented, heh.
